Join the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection — Become a Deputy Fire Marshal

As a Deputy Fire Marshal with the San Andreas Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, you’ll hold one of the most specialized law enforcement roles in the state. Our Deputy Fire Marshals are sworn peace officers trained to investigate arson, enforce fire safety laws, and lead wildfire preparedness and prevention efforts across San Andreas.

This role isn’t just about law enforcement - it’s about protecting lives, property, and wildland from fire through expert investigation, boots-on-the-ground prevention, and strong community engagement and education.

Investigating Arson & Fire-Related Crimes

When a fire occurs under suspicious circumstances, Deputy Fire Marshals are first on scene to investigate. They determine cause and origin through detailed examination, assessing physical and forensic evidence, and may deploy accelerant detection (AD) canines to locate traces of ignitable liquids or vapors.

Our work establishes whether a fire was accidental or criminal. In suspected arson cases—especially high-risk ones—our Arson Prevention Team works with local and state law enforcement and District Attorney offices to build strong cases and hold offenders accountable.

By investigating every fire with signs of foul play, we help deter future offenses and reduce arson-related crime. These efforts protect lives, preserve property, and strengthen public safety across communities statewide.

Enforcing the Fire Code

Deputy Fire Marshals are responsible for enforcing the San Andreas Fire Code - legislation designed to safeguard business owners, employees, and the public and set a standard for business operational safety. We conduct routine inspections to ensure compliance, issue Fire Safety Certificates, and follow up with reinspections when necessary. When code violations are identified, we may issue warnings, citations, or, cease-and-desist orders depending on severity, particularly when public safety is at risk.

We also enforce the Fireworks Use and Sales Enforcement (FUSE) Act, regulating the sale and use of legal “Safe and Sane” fireworks within the state. Our oversight extends to retail operations and public events, ensuring safe practices and protecting both consumers and communities.

In addition to enforcement, we actively collaborate with local and state agencies, as well as community members, to strengthen fire safety legislation and ongoing wildfire prevention efforts across San Andreas.

Educating the Public & Leading Prevention

We lead the charge in public education and wildfire mitigation. Deputy Fire Marshals deliver workshops, conduct school and community outreach, and help property owners understand defensible space and emergency readiness.

We actively collaborate with our Forester Program personnel on identifying areas most at risk, planning and executing fuel reduction projects, which may include prescribed burns to prevent major outbreaks and in the event of a wildfire, partake in after incident damage assessments and conservation efforts as well as provide Deputy Fire Marshal presence across Los Santos County on Firewatch Patrols.

Our outreach and campaigns aim to include vulnerable populations like seniors, non-English speakers, and individuals with disabilities - ensuring no one is left behind in our mission for a safer and more fire resilient San Andreas.
